DG Overlanding campsite
review of De Hoop Campsite in the Ai-Ais / Richtersveld Transfrontier Park.
Absolutly stunning campsite –
a must visit if you are camping in the Richtersveld!!
This campsite is in a rough
sandy/rocky deset area known as the Richtersveld. There is no power at the
campsites so you need to have solar to keep the fridge and freezer running. In
the summer months it can get really hot ! The water was not potable, so you
need to also bring your own.
It's a remote camping
experieance, and you have to have an off road and 4x4 vehicle and if you are
towing, as off-road trailer or off-road caravan is a must. No ordinary caravan
will make it here !
The ablutions are good, with cold
water and flush toilets. Few of the sites have shade and some have a braai/fire
pit.
De Hoop is on the Orange
River – stunning - in the far Northern
Cape of South Africa.
The road getting in to De
Hoop is an experieanc e on it’s own. You have to arrive at recepotion at
Sendelingsdrif early enough to leave enough time to traverse the rocky
tweespoor mountain passes and river drive. You really don’t want to be doing
this in the dark !!
Enjoy - its a lovely
experieance visiting the Richtersveld.
